Two children raped n killed in a town with 10,000
- 11/24/2019
This city is disgusting
Watch Netflix cold case files- first episode first season. An 11 year old girl raped by 3 town residents who everyone knew - two brothers went on sexually abusing girls for 10 years while the local cops tried finding their ass with both hands with no success. Meanwhile another lovey 17 year old boy kidnapped raped and killed a 5 year old girl.
Nice town? Inbred morons!!! Run don’t walk the hell out of here

Everyone is trying to leave

There are no jobs here, the school system is terrible, the town is only getting deader, and even if you came to retire, the winters are long and harsh, the hospitals are not good, and the transportation systems are non existent. Needles are around every corner and a meth lab around the next. The only reason people expose themselves to this environment is because they cannot get out. Save yourself and don't come

Little town
- 11/30/2016
Oil City is full of wonderful history. Unfortunately that hay day is long gone. Still, it is a nice little town. Like anyplace where people live you have some crime but if you come from a big city there really isn't any like you might think of as crime.
The home prices are great, but winters are cold. The spring summer and fall are beautiful. There is hunting, fishing and hiking galore. When I say there are no jobs here I mean you better be retired, that will be the only way you will really enjoy it here. There is NO work to speak of unless you can get on with the school district or own your own business. It is a bit of a drive to get to anywhere (forget it it as a commute, the winters are too much for that really) but then I like it that way. If I want the city it is an hour away to Erie, a little more to Pittsburgh and I can go to Ohio in about the same amount of time. If I want REAL big city New York is only 5-6 hours away. Hotel stay for that one.

Great Place for Retirees
- 8/9/2016
Oil City is real small town living. Having done Sperling comparisons on Oil City and other places, it soon became obvious that Oil City would be a great place to retire. I have been here five years now and couldn't be happier.
The pace of life is slow and relaxed. Victorian houses at give away prices, low cost of living, clean water and air. And how odd to feel safe for the first time since the 1960s. If you are retired and don't need a job or have kids to burden the schools, consider Oil City, where they need people and your life could matter. You might like it here, I sure

The only thing that i have to say about OIL CITY is that the wages here are to low for a family to survive .Both adults in just about every household has to work in order to make ends meet.TO many people here are losing their homes to forecloser, because the wages are terrible. That's why so many are moving away.It won't be long before OIL CITY is a ghost town like

Small town advantages/disadvantages - from a young
- 5/18/2006
Oil City is like any other small town in rural Pennsylvania. Advantages and disadvantages likewise. Very nice for young families, wonderful place to raise young children, community orientated. Almost no serious crime, low cost of living, great house buying market. Beautiful area, nice scenery. Economy is unfortunately on the downslide. Lots of families moving out of area. Unemployment rate is fairly high and steady. Not many options for young people in the work force. College graduates not inclined to return to the area or stay because of the job market. There is a wonderful sense of community, education has it's good and bad points but overall it's average. If you can find a well paying job within a reasonable drive, Oil City could be a very nice
